I have a HQ16 with a stitch regulator, over the last several months I have had this problem with the regulator not working. I go along real good for awhile then I get an alarm and the machine stops. I spoke to a tech at Handi quilter and he sent me a new part for the back regulator, after installation it worked really well then with the second quilt the problem began again. Any one else having this problem. I have resorted to free motion but do not do so well with that method. stitch lenght etc. is a problem/
When I first got my HQ, I was having the same problem. I would be going along and get a beep then MOTOR STALL on the display. I found that I was going too fast around curves for the regulator. I would have the stitch length at about a 12. I heard folks say set the length at 10 and it should stop. Well, I kept mine at a twelve and just slow down a bit on curves.

Hope this helps.
I have tried that also, but even at 10 it does it. I go slow but still get an alarm. I am wondering if it is the timing. I get to quilt on free motion but the speed is a problem for me can't seem to go at an even rate.
Anyway, I will keep trying.
If you have tried all the "fixes" then you should take it into your dealer. But make sure your dealer can test the machine when you take it in and before they service the unit, be sure to get the machine to do the error.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. We would all be interested in the solution.
I also have had problems with motor stall when I'm at the corner of a pieced block. I figure it's because there is more fabric there because of the seam allowances. I turn the balance wheel on the back of the machine and it is ready to go.

When we got our HQ the other day the stitich regulator would only work intermitently. DH found that the one wheel on the (DUH) left right sensor was missing the track in places. He slightly bent the wheel mount assy so that it was always in contact. Now works perfect.
The stitch regulator sensesmovement of the rubber wheels . One on the right side of the machine and the other on the needle end. If they don't turn it says no movement therefore I'll stop!!!!!
Maybe this is of some help.
