Hi Everyone - I am almost ready to purchase a HQ16 regulated system. I am in Canada and was wondering if there are any other Canadians who have purchased a system like this. We are going to go to the states in January and am wondering if I should wait and get one at that time - it apprears they may be a bit less expensive down south. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Nancy in Calgary
I read somewhere that they will be having some specials around Christmas... you might want to check into that. Also, you can buy from ANY dealer, the machine, etc.. will be drop shipped to your home, so you can order through any dealer you want, and it DOES pay to shop around!
to crazycreekcreations..... having gone back and forth over the border numerous times, i'm not sure if coming down "south" would be helpful. these boxes aren't something you can stuff in a duffel bag so some of the taxes you may incur might not be worth it. good luck though. i, too, am searching for a dealer/good price now. it's exciting, isn't it?
I'm almost ready to buy, too, and worried about the items that I will need to get going. While I wait for delivery of my quilter, is there a list of accessories anywhere that I should gather, so that I don't have to drive 50 miles to my nearest shop several times to get it all together. No matter how much research I do, I'm always short something that makes it impossible to move ahead. Can anyone make some suggestion?
You will want to get PLENTY of corsage pins. If you have a local Wal-Mart you can find these in the floral/bridal area. Buy at least 2 if not 3 boxes of them. These pins are what you will use to pin to the leaders. Also, I use the blue MARK B GONE pen for marking light and medium fabrics, and I use Miracle Chalk and chalk pencils for marking dark fabrics.

I strongly suggest purchasing the Versa Tool, the Handi Quilter ruler, ruler base, and the Handi Half Circles from the website.

You might also want to visit www.quilterstouch.com and look at her DVD's. Absolutely great information and ideas and step by step techniques. You can purchase the set of 3 for $79 and trust me you get WAY more than your monies worth from them.
Thanks so much Crashnquilt. That's list is great. I feel better already. I've been on line all day and was getting very confused. I'm off to Walmart tomorrow and will order the rest on line.
Daisy - also get a magnifing glass for when the ...oops happens cuz the stitches could be so close they are hard to see for frogging out.
daisy...
on one of the other handiquilter forum chats, someone mentioned LONGARMCHAT.COM (i think i'm remembering correctly). i visited that site and it was super! along with all kinds of info, there was a list of must-haves (tools, materials, threads, etc) and i really found it very helpful. another quilter said to stock up on THREAD, THREAD, THREAD so you can get lots of practicing in.
does anyone have any suggestions about where to get the muslin in bulk? i'm still looking at more stores around here, but no super deals...locally.
I am currently waiting for delivery of a HQ 16. I live in Ontario and found that the price has come down considerably with the weak US $. Also, you will be more likely have easier access to fast
support if you buy locally, than if you deal with someone in the US.
Another good site for information is www.mpresource.com/index.php That site it totally free. Yes, definately stock up on THREAD. Don't buy the cheaper threads "for practice" you'll become too disappointed. Plus, the cone threads have so much thread on them that you won't really think you've used much.

Also, at www.youtube.com in the search window type in QUILTING, or MACHINE QUILTING, or LONGARM QUILTING and you will get tons of information there too. I watched two videos on squaring a quilt and quilt back. Tried it and LOVED IT. Man, once you get that back and quilt square, they line up perfect on the rollers and you have no problem with pucker and quilting goes smooth as glass.

Congrats on the new machine Olga, keep us posted on your progress.
My husband did call the people in Edmonton and negotiated a fairly good price - so he'll go up Saturday to pick it up. Ohhhh I'm so excited, I could hardly sleep last night. I did decide to go with the Quiltable instead of the portable mainly because of the information on this forum. You can be sure I'll be back with a lot of questions once I have it up and running - thanks everyone for all your help.
Houston Quilt show price was $14995.00 whereas regular price was $17995.00. This sale price will be good through November 30. I assume the sale price will be in every dealer's business. (This is what I was told at the Quilt Show.
Yes, that is what my dealer here in Missouri told me. But remember, when you are ready to purchase check to see if HQ is at a show in your area. If so, have your dealer contact their sales rep to see if you can get show pricing at the store. That is what my dealer did for me and I got a SUPER DEAL on my machine.
I just went to YouTube to see about the squaring up of the material. The woman is great and I will have to try it. It is an extra step but if it leads to less frustration in the long run, I'll give it a try. Never thought of YouTube for something useful! Thanks crashnquilt!
MonkeyMommeyQuilts... I'm here in Southern Alberta and just bought the HQ16 in Great Falls from BigSky Quilts... you need to talk to Joyce, she is a wonderful dealer and I'm so happy... let me know how to reach you and we can chat if you like. Great service, great price - saved big $'s compared to what was availble in Alberta from the dealers and with our $ being strong, you won't do better for service... have to add, I'm a novice to quilting, big into machine embroidery, but wow, I can see how one gets hooked. Dealer installed the machine and believes in hands on training, no one else offered that service and still saved us lots of money.

Education is everything and I researched for a year before deciding on the machine and the dealer... be sure to test drive the machine at a trade show or dealers, it's worth the time and energy to make sure it will do what you need it to do. Now if I can only get up to speed on my new toy!
I just got an e-mail with the November specials. They have a good deal on the Pro-Stitcher computer set-up and discounts on tables. I'm happy with the set up I have, but some of you may not be aware of the specials.
Who is "they"...??
Sorry--The email I got came from QuiltTrends. hq16fun@yahoo.com I get ads from them all the time.
thanks, I'll see if I can find them. I'm guessing that is the shop in Columbus, Ohio.
Thanks everyone for all the good information on websites and supplies. I've been notified that delivery is this week and I'm chewing my fingernails with anticipation. Some people mentioned a 3 hour training session. I was told to come in with my warrantee card and they will show me how to use the machine, but no one mentioned 3 hours. It would be great, though. I have 3 DVD's that show how to quilt borders, etc. Can anyone tell me which set is the best for for getting started and the basics.
Hi Crashquilt, just tried www.mpresource.com and it's an employment agency site. Can you verify the address, please. Thanks!
Daisy;
Sorry for the misspell there. it is www.mqresource.com. It's a great site for information.
Crashnquilt, Thanks, I'm headed for the website now. Just got notified that my delivery is on Wednesday. Bearly breathing, I'm so excited.
I remember the day my machine was to come. I think I stood out in the street waiting on the UPS guy! When the boxes were put in my living room I did get a bit light-headed. Once you get the machine set to your likeing, you will love it!
Crashnquilt, Spent most of the day on recommended site and really enjoyed it. Even tried to make a pretty signature, but haven't posted yet! Lots of good information and funny postings. Thanks for the info. Twenty-four hours to go!!
Let us know when your machine arrives home. Wish I could be there to see your face.
Well, it's now Friday night and I've been busy putting this beauty together. Watched the video over and over again to get it right and finally am ready to attach a test quilt. That will be tomorrrow because I'm bushed. It's great, fantastic and deliciously wonderful to finally have it in my house. It was well wrapped and carefully boxed, everything was where it was supposed to be and when I plugged it in it actually lite up. How about that! More to come!! Thanks, Crashnquilt for your support.
