I know I can't be the only one...My new SR HQ16 was installed yesterday and I was appalled at the quality (lack thereof) of the manual. The printing is so poor that the proper threading sequence can not be determined by looking at the manual.

I don't think it's too much to ask after spending $8000+ to expect a half decent manual. Like somone else has mentioned here, compare it to the manual and instructions you get with a $29 cell phone and it's a total joke.

If you agree please reply to this post and maybe the fine folks at Handi Quilter will take notice.

Thanks.
I agree that the manual leaves a lot to be desired! There are lots of questions I've had, that I cannot find help for in the manual.

Oh well.....
I completly agree, your best hope at getting assistance is through your dealer

good luck
The manual is more like a copy of a copy of a copy . . . and terribly lacking in much of anything. Good thing I am comfortable with sewing machines or I would be completely lost. Seen software packages with more instructions and they certainly don't cost several thousand dollars. Quite disappointed. HQ should be ashamed of themselves.
I also found the so called manual lacking, but did learn a lot from the DVD my dealer included.
I agree. I would like to see a better manual too. I would like to see more about the sensors underneath the machine - "mechanics."

I just got my machine, my dealer came and installed it with the help of my husband. I feel like I don't know how to use it because of the manual. I know how to do an overall free style design, but that's it. I quess I have to order a DVD. lily
I agree about a better instruction manual . The DVD that came with the HQ16 didn't help either as it needs improvement also. I'm glad my friend had an HQ16 so I called her with my questions since it was after my dealer and the factory had closed for the day.
definitely a better manual would be helpful to those of us who don't have any dealers locally to access and are stuck in the boonies trying to learn... manual is definitely not up to par with the quality of the machine.
I agree, a better manual is needed. Perhaps they can put the manual online too, with enlarged pictures for easier viewing.
I am waiting for my new machine and am concerned about all the complaints about the manual. I'm not near my dealer and sometimes the phone doesn't visualize well. Hope the help desk is good. Has anyone contacted HQ and asked? If everyone calls with suggestions maybe they will act on it. Hope my dealer sends me a DVD. Wish me well.

My manual was clearly printed but I had to use the DVD (which came with my machine) along with the manual to get the idea of what they were asking me to do. I had trouble with the instruction on how to pull the bobbin thread through the top...it was as if they assumed you already knew what that was all about. Other than that I poked along fine. I do have a great support system at "It's a Stitch" in Humble, Texas. I offer this critic as a help to produce a more thorough manual and not as a complaint....God Bless, Della
I, too was disappointed by the manual - and the DVD isn't a whole lot better. Was this made with somebodies home camera? At one point, they're showing how to thread the machine - and all you get is a lovely view of the HAND of the person doing the threading! Hmmmmmm! I just got my machine at the Houston Quilt Show, and as soon as I hit 'Enter' am on my way to our local dealership to make sure I know what I'm doing before I mess up a VERY expensive investment! Then I've got 5 baby quilts (which will go to our local Ronald McDonald House) lined up to practice on. I can't wait to become proficient on this machine but if I had to rely solely on the manual and the DVD would find it very difficult to get started!
I agree. The quality of the manual is very poor. I had to stop the video at every direction, to get every thing set up. I also agree, the hand in the way was not at all helpful.
I'd actually rather see them put the manual on the internet and let us download it ourselves. That way they can keep it updated. We can then print in color if we want.
