I just got my HQ16 on Friday. I am having trouble with the bobbin thread. I can sew for about 10-12 inches and then the bobbin thread breaks. It almost seems like it is getting caught on something. I have tried adjusting both top and bottom tension with no luck. I am using So Fine thread by Superior Threads.
Under the tips and tricks section of this web page are some very good instructions, with video, of how to set the bobbin tension. I am assuming you have done this. Does the thread flow out freely if you just have the bobbin in your hand and pull? I got a bad bobbin that was not quite round and would catch so the thread didn't pull out freely. I have also dropped my bobbin case and bent it slightly causing the same issue in that the thread would not unwind smoothly. I was able to bend it back but I am very careful about dropping it now. Good luck.

The problem could be that your bobbin tension is too tight. If you go to under the Education heading you will find a link to Viedo Tips & Tricks. From there go to "How to Viedos", then to Machine Maintenance Viedos. Under this you will find several viedos that will be helpful. One of them is called Bobbin Tension. This will help you learn how to properly set you bobbin tension.

I have had this problem. When I took the machine for service about this, it was determined that the spring at the back of the bobbin case needed adjustment. All was fine for a while, then it happened again. I was able to make the adjustment myself. It has happened several times. It is definitly a frustration. I have thought about ordering a new bobbin case but, since others might be having this same problem, I don't know if it would do any good to do so.
