I'm just wondering what is everyone's favorite brand of thread to use on the HQ 16??

and do you use the same brand in the bobbin as in the top?

what are your experiences, I'm hoping to learn from all of you, and avoid some frustration! =)
There are several different brands that I like and can't say I prefer one over the other because of the end results.

For the bobbin, I like using cardboard side bobbins by Superior. I usually have the bobbin thread to match the backing fabric.

For top threads I like

Perfect Quilter, King Tut, Rainbows from Superior
Maxi-Lock Swirls serger thread
Signature Thread
Star Quilting Thread by Coats and Clark

I've also used YLI invisible thread on a quilt top with very good results.
thanks for all the information!
Oh, I meant to ask, do you have to adjust the tension when using the MaxiLock thread?

I'm thinking, for charity quilts especially, that this thread would be good to use, b/c it is bound to be MUCH cheaper, or am I totally wrong on that?
You will need to adjust tension no matter what thread you use. I do a lot of charity quilts for my quilt shop where I bought my HQ. I mostly use Star Machine Quilting cotton thread on those because they are on baby quilts for NEWBORNS IN NEED. I use the cotton thread because it is heavier and I don't want to take a chance of the polyester thread causing any kind of reaction.

I like the Maxi-Lock swirls for giving a "it's there but not there" kind of look because it is a very thin thread. It does not break very much because it is polyester thread. But being thin, it gives more of a shadow effect in the stitching.

The maxi lock would be much cheaper to use because it is such a large cone. Just keep in mind where the charity quilts are going.

If you a doing charity quilts mostly for children, I would probably stick to all cotton threads.

That is just my opinion.
thanks for all your comments! they are a big help
