I bought my HQ 16 in February and I love it! I have made quilts since I was 10 years old, but I always had to tie or hand quilt them. I mostly piece tops and I have dozens stored away. Now that we have a house big enough to have an extra room, I claimed it for my quilting room and bought the HQ 16. I have fininshed 4 quilts already. I have a tremor in my hands which makes it hard to free-hand the quilting, so I use the groovy boards. It is so fun and easy! My question about the groovy boards is that they keep shifting as I go along. I tried to tape them down, but they still shift. Does anybody have a suggestion for this?
Here is a trick that usually works, go to home depot or some place similar and get a roll of carpet tape. It's double sided and place it under those boards. You will find that you do not need to go from end to end as this stuff really holds on tight.
You can also use blue painter tape if you are having a difficult time keeping them secured to the table. Make sure that you have at least two or more boards together. The more boards you have placed together the more stability you will have. Just a thought that has worked for me
I have used a slightly damp wash cloth or the "rubberized" shelving material under the boards. That seems to help.
Thank you for your suggestions. Sandi at Sandi's Sewing Connection in Burlington, Iowa suggested I get some shelving paper that is rubbery. With that under the groovy boards, it does not shift at all. I still use the painter's tape too, just to make sure.
Somewhere in the forum, I saw the mention of a groovy board starter kit. Anyone know anything about that? I am just starting to think about pantographs/groovies, up to now I have been a free motion quilter, but I really want to do a baptist fan, and that almost requires a groovy board!
Hi Gamundstock,
I think I had mentioned buying a starter kit when I purchased my machine. The quilt store I am buying my machine from has a Groovy board starter kit which includes 4 boards (2 designs), a stylus, and adapter for less that $300. I don't know if the kit is on this website or not, but when I was still shopping I know another quilt store had the same kit for sale. Hope this helps.
