Handle speed control

After working with my Fusion (and a previous machine with the same handle layout) for 10 months, I can't seem to overcome this problem: I find that the stitch length (or manual speed) has often been changed unintentionally without my knowledge. When concentrating on the quilt or pattern, I seldom look away to the display screen to verify the current spi. I assume that this is user error by accidentally pressing the + button at the same time that I press Start or stop. I may just tape something over the + to block that side of the right handle.
Does anyone have another work-around method to prevent this from happening? I was thinking that a couple of design changes could work well: 1. Move the + to the left handle, to be with grouped with the -, and the up/down button to the right handle next to the start/stop. 2. Possibly add a menu item that deactivates the handle speed buttons and lock setting. I seldom/never wish to change stitch length "on the fly" in the middle of a quilt, especially in regulated mode and would really like to prevent this from happening. |

After many unintentional changes of stitch length during quilting, I adapted my Fusion to block the handlebar adjustment.
I cut small pieces of wood trim and installed them over the four stitch length buttons with double sided 3M Mounting tape. The thickness of the tape allows room for the raised buttons. Now the buttons are inactivated. I can still change my stitch length/speed at any time, using the touch screen. Here is a photo: http://www.pbase.com/filer/image/121213556 I still think that it would be nice to have a menu option to turn off/on the handlebar control. |
