Help!! With Needle Height

Help! I went to change my needle today and I can't get it back in all the way. It raises up to the top of the tension screw hole but won't go up any further. I nicked a ruler awhile back but have changed needles a couple of times since then and did not have a problem. I even took the tension screw all the way out this time just to make sure it was not in the way.
What could have happened? Thanks in advance for an answer. Kara |

Kara,
You need to remove the needle you are currently using and look on the sides of the needle bar at the sight hole and see if you can see through the hole, to the other side. If you can not see through the sight hole then you have something inside the needle bar. Remove whatever is in there, then try putting your needle back in there. Also, try using a new needle. Occasionaly there can be a burr on the needle that will prevent it from going all the way up. Good luck, Cheryl Duncan Handi Quilter Studio Educator |

Thanks Cheryl for the reply. Since I posted I have had a couple of suggestions sent to me. I tried multiple needles including the one I had just taken out of the machine. What was suggested was that I had tightened my tension screw too much and had probably pushed a small shard of something into the needle shaft. It was suggested to get a small file or some emery cord and try and work the burr out - so I tried that. On the plus side, my needle now goes up where it should. On the negative side, my tension screw does not hold tension any longer. I'm trying to get in touch with my dealer to get into the shop and have the bottom metal piece replaced. I'm still waiting on a reply with them.
Guess I should have left it to the experts - but I was anxious to get a QOV done. Sigh. thanks for the response! Kara |
