Does anybody have experience with how well monofilament thread hold up over the years? Will I get comlaints that dry cleaning disintegrated it or it started breaking after so many washings?
Thanks.
I've noticed no one has been able to come up with an answer for you. What type of mono do you plan to use? I personally like Mono-poly. The brand I use is Superior. I have used it in everyday quilts and so far so good. I've not had it get hard or brittle and no turning yellow. I can't say the same of the Mono-Nylon that I used. The nylon was a bit "hard" just coming off the spool. But since I didn't have anything else available I did use it in a wall hanging about a year ago. Today, I'm not very happy. The nylon has become quite brittle to the touch and it turning a tanish/yellow. That has been my experience with it.

I don't suggest using mono thread on an everyday quilt. But for wall hangings it's great.
I've used YLI and have liked it very well, now I use sew art and like it even better! It's less shiney than anything I've tried....as far as breaking and turning yellow I have not noticed that...I know the other brands are quite a bit more shiney and I'm going for invisible...I Invisible machine applique with sew art too. Not sure if they'll change in the next 50 years but haven't in the last 10!
I'm a new Handiquilter owner and was just looking at the discussion about monofilament thread. I'm starting to practice stitching in the ditch and so far, I'm using Superior Bottom Line thread. I would like to try their monofilament. Does anyone have any advice on the tension adjustments with the monofilament? So far, I haven't changed the top tension at all, just the bottom and my Handiquilter seems to be very happy. Does anyone also have any advice on stitching the ditch? I'm using the Handiquilter ruler base and the Versa tool.
Thanks for any suggestions. I just love my Handiquilter!
