HQ 16 questions before purchas

Hi,
I have done a 2hr training seminar on the HQ16, and then later rented 2 hours on the HQ16 to practice quilting a couple quilts. I have completed most of my long arm research/shopping and would like to set up a time to order a machine. I'd just like answers to a few questions which I have not yet located on the website. I believe I am mostly looking at the HQ16, but I have questions regarding both machines. Regarding the Fusion... The description does not say it includes the frame or table. Is this true? What is the "On-board video play back system"? Does it come with remote bobbin winder, as the HQ16 does? Is this a substantially better sewing machine over the HQ16, or is the significant cost increase primarily for the added throat/quilting space? Website gives the HQ16's frame a limitted lifetime warranty. What is the machine's warranty? Tables... What table should I use? I posed this question to a person on the HQ website and he told me "any old table will work", which seems like a ridiculous reason to sell a $1400 table! I need guidance here. Obviously, I want a table that will be very sturdy. I was looking at the QuilTable - can the rolling caster wheels be locked? What is shipping on this table to Maine? Other long arm manufacturers have the table and frame integrated so it is just one unit, which is structurally rigid. Other general quesitons... How long does the machine and frame take to arrive once ordered? Are the DVD's that are sold (saw on HQ's site not your's) - there is "Blocks & Motifs", "Borders" and "Backgrounds" - Are these for the ProStitcher or are they informational for any Long Armer? How frequently do the wheels need replacing? Does HQ16 have trouble with the smaller spools of thread (because the mount is near the back of the machine)? I saw that people add an additional mount for regular sized thread spools on a Millinium because of thread breakage using the location of the cone mount. What leaders come with the HQ16 package? - marked leaders are listed as an accessory, but it seems that they are really necessary! How many extra bobbin cases are recommended? or is it easy to adjust the tension when a different weight bobbin thread is used? On average, how often do you see problems reported with the HQ16 (ie., how often can I expect servicing)? Lots of questions, I know - I'm trying to make this an informed purchase and to get all of the accessories up front I think I will need. I look forward to your answers to my questions- Margaret |

Thanks, Brenda, for these replies as well as the comments you left yesterday on my blog. It is all immensely helpful. I keep waffling back & forth between these 2 machines...Just need to make a decision. Tomorrow I am revisiting my local HQ rep to test the Fusion. So much has been discussed about the HQ16, I nearly forgot that the Fusion is probably a much better comparison with the Millinium, and in my opinion, more affordable~
thanks again- Margaret www.quiltsoflove.blogspot msolomo1@maine.rr.com |
