Ihave a very early model of HQ16, upgraded with new wheels and the stitch regulator and soon with the new handles with the tilt screen and new software. Due to illness I have not quilted anything for about 3 years, but now I am getting back into it, rereading my books and articles and this forum. I'm not a professional, and like to make tops - I have about 30 waiting to be quilted. Question: the only information I can find in my HQ 'manual' is to put a drop of oil on the hook every two bobbins. So can anyone really explain to me what this means? Where? how much? do I wipe it around? what? thanks |

| You put one drop of oil on the bottom of the area where you insert your bobbin. Do this with every bobbin change. You should also use a soft brush to remove any lint build up every time you change bobbin and oil. |

| The only other thing I do is run the machine a bit on a scrap to make sure oil will not get on the quilt. I always check my tension and stitches after changing the bobbin anyway just to save some "picking" if something has inadvertantly changed. Once in awhile the areas seems a bit too oily and I take a soft cloth and kinda wipe it out. Glad to hear you are well enough to get back into quilting, sounds like you have plenty of tops to keep you busy for awhile. |

| At a local quilt show an educator from HQ was there demonstrating. I thought she said that our machines need to be taken in for service every year just like our home machines. Does anyone know if this is correct? |

| yes I have heard the same thing on the servicing. I have an HQ that is about 1 1/2 yrs old and I just took mine in for service about 2 mos ago. The timing got messed up and would not bring up the bobbin thread. It ran about 100.00 for complete service. |

| GaMundstock - now what is this new software, tiltscreen etc you are talking about? I have heard pros and cons about the stitch regulator - it seems like gals either love or hate it. I tried one at a show and really fell in love with it but need to do more customer quilts than I do before I feel I can afford that feature. |

My machine was just delivered last night. My dealer said the recommended service is every 2 years unless you are having problems. They do the service at your home so you don't have to bring the machine in. She said it really helps if you keep the bobbin area free of lint, change the needle often just like you would in your DSM, and she also recommended "flossing" the tension disks to make sure there is no lint or bits of thread in it when you are threading the machine. I don't know about any of this for sure, but it is what my dealer told me when she came to my house to help me load my first "quilt" and get started. Jan |

vickiequilts: Handle upgrade with new 'tilt' screen - see the product page in the handiquilter website for details! A friend and I both have ordered our upgrades - she from handi quilter, I from my local dealer. They should arrive this week! We are both looking forward to getting it. And we have bets on who will get theirs first, get it installed and start using it. Stitch regulator:I had an incident last week. The stitch regulator cable going to the front wheel came loose and somehow went under the front regulator wheel and got tangled. Took me a while to get it straightened out but its ok now. The problem was that when it was installed by my local dealer, she didn't put a piece of velcro up under the machine - she just used the sticky side of the velcro that attached to the cable. Now I have my velcro up under the machine and the cable stuck to it, I should not have any more cable problems. I love my stich regulator!! |

| I talked to a lady at HandiQuilter today and my new upgrade will be in my hands on Monday. YEA!!! I can hardly wait. She also told me that Handiquilter reccommends that we have our machines serviced yearly, just like we would our sewing machines. Perhaps all the dealers aren't up to speed on this. ??? My dealer wasn't aware there was an upgrade until I went in with the ad and ask her to order it for me. |
