Looking for some help regarding the purchase of HQII Frame

Hello Ladies, I am trying to find out if my Husqvarna Viking Designer I is compatible with the HQII Frame. I have written to HandiQuilter and they have responded "Because there are so many machine types on the market, we are unable to be familiar with the capacity of all brands." They did say that I needed to be able to lower my feed dogs and I do have that capability. And they also said I needed 10-12" open arm. I would like to know if anyone can explain open arm for me? Might that be the measurement from the throat to the needle? If anyone would be so kind to respond I would very much appreciate your assistance. I can not afford a HQ16 with the economy being what it is and this looked like a reasonable possibility for me. Thank you in advance for your help. Begining quilter dreaming, Lil |

| Yes, the throat to needle is your open arm space. Just remember that as you quilt a quilt it rolls up on the back bar and your open space to quilt gets smaller. It means that if you are using a pantograph to quilt that it has to fit your open space on the last row with the quilted quilt on the back bar or you will have to take the quilt off, turn it around and quilt the last row or rows upside down(I think). But just overall meandering will work great. Hope this answers your question. |

Hi Lillaena, I have upgraded from the Designer 1 to the SE. I still have my D1 and would love to do what you are doing with yours. When you set up your machine with the table, would you mind sending me a picture and information on how you did this? whayden216@bellsouth.net I too have been itching to buy a longarm but the pricing is something I really have to wait on. Good luck! Wanda |

| I was at my Viking dealer tonight to look at their Handi Quilter II frame and they had a new model of Viking on the frame. I told her I planned to use my OLD Viking and she said they were using that newest model because the older models didn't have a big enough throat area to quilt it without turning. Just an FYI |

I would like to thank the three ladies who responded to my inquiry. I measured this morning and only have 7-1/4" to 7-1/2" opening. Is it really a hassle to turn it around? Can one person do it with out much trouble? I have located a shop that is giving a demo this coming weekend and I do plan on attending. It is just hard to wait to get answers, as it seams that the answer to one question brings to mind more questions. And as much as I would love to find a way to quilt on my own I am afraid that I will buy and not be able to utilize this unit. Which brings to mind two more questions for now. I see that they have a specific table that is fairly pricy for a table, can you set it up on another table? And if so what criteria do I need to be aware of? Thank you all for your patience with answering my questions I do greatly appreciate all your help. And if I do end up purchasing one I will be sure to send you a picture Wanda:) Best regards from a beginer quilter dreaming, Lil |
