Hello Everyone, I am trying to use the Baptist Fan groovy board to quilt a top and I have spent several hours trying to get through my first pass. The thread continues to break, I have changed needles 4 times, and I have tried 3 different kinds of thread. I finally put in a #18 needle this morning = this seems to have helped. My problem continues to be the speed and the stitch length. I have the machine set on regulated stitch but many of my stitches are long, some are over 1 inch in length. I think this is due to the speed problem. Because I am using a groovy board, I am sewing from the back of the machine. It seems to be fine when I am operating the machine, moving it toward me, but when I move the machine away from me, the machine slows down on its own and eventually stops. As I continue to try to keep it moving, the needle is a problem, because I am trying to keep it moving and the needle is moving too slow in and out of the quilt. I hope you can follow what I have written. Any ideas on how to resolve? I am very frustrated............. Thank you. wk |

Hi, What stitch length do you have it set at? And are you letting the machine mtake ma few stitches before you start to move it? I use groovy boards a lot and I find that I sometimes go way too fast! I don'r think it seems to be fast, but I noticed the machine really doesn't like it. So maybe try slowing down just a bit especially on curves. Also what kind of thread are you using? Ever since i went to King Tut by Superior Threads I rarely ever have trouble. Let me know how things work out. |

| I just did a Baptist fan and found that moving slow and steady won the race. If your stitches are up to 1" long, I'd bet you're trying to move way too fast. Listen to the motor and keep a steady hum going. Like tortoise and the hare--you'll finish in the lead! (Sorry--I'm a Kindergarten teacher.) |

Thank you Jean and quiltingbikermom for your comments and suggestions! I appreciate them. I did find the problem - one of my sensors, the "speed" sensor, I don't recall the correct name of it, came unplugged! I had no idea! There are 2 "sensors" that those thin grey cables attach to underneath "machine/carriage" (sorry, I do not know the technical names - I guess I better learn them). Because that thin grey cable is just kind of hanging there loose as you sew, one of them - the culprit - must have gotten caught on something and unplugged. I am soooooo glad I called our local service guy! Anyway, I plugged it back in and finished quilting the top yesterday - it looks great! I still don't know why the thread kept breaking though - maybe they were connected. I left the size 18 needle in and moved on. Thank you. wk |
