Motor Stalling

| Hi, I am new to the chat site and am hoping that someone might be able to help me. I just purchased a used HQ sixteen, 3 years old, lightly used, 3 days ago. I tested it at the previous owners house and then used it this morning for the 1st time. Except for some minor tension adjustments it seemed to work fine. This afternoon I wanted to do some more practicing and moved the carriage to an empty space on my practice fabric, got the needle down and the machine stalled. Now I can't do anything. I turned it off, unplugged it from the wall, checked to make sure nothing was loose, the wheels are on the runners, thread isn't stuck anywhere, replugged it in, turned it on and scrolled through the read out. When I select for needle up, The needle is down in my fabric, it alarms and reads "motor stalled". Any suggestions? I called customer support 6 hours ago and haven't received a call back. Any tips would be appreciated. DSB |

| With the machine turned off, slowly turn the hand wheel toward you to get the needle the go up. Sometimes there is a bit of thread or dirt in the bobbin area that will cause a stall. Mine has stalled in a thick seam also. If there is a lot of resistance, rethread the machine because something might be stuck in the tension disc. Hope this helps. |

| I don't have much advice, but I had that happen to me on the first day also. I think I had to turn it off and on a couple of times before it started working right again. |

I have gotten the motor stall message myself usually when my needle is in the down position. I use the fly wheel to raise the needle and then turn the machine off. If I leave it off for a bit then turn it back on this will usually take care of the problem. If I get the motor stall message more than once while using the machine I have found that if I give the machine a really good cleaning I won't get the message anymore. What I have found is usually the bobbin area will be fairly full of lint just under the needle plate. I have had to call customer support 4 times since getting my machine. I always get right thru to someone I've never had to wait for a call back. You do have to remember they are in Washington State so you might be hitting a time difference. Good luck and please keep us posted on your progress. |

Hi all, I am new to the HQ, it has been set up for just over a week. I hate going to work, love the machine! I also had motor stall, I had changed my needle and put in backwards. Before discovering that was the problem I called my rep, who suggested having someone turn the wheel (make sure the machine is off) while you check the bobbin area for any very small pieces of thread. I use a mini flashlight to help light the area. Good luck, hope you get it resolved soon. |
