Purchased my HQ-16 in February. Have been unable to get going on any quilts as I have been having major tension problems---not to mention my own tension level!!!! Wondering if anyone in Western PA or NorthEastern Ohio would be willing to meet with me to get me going. Contact me privately at NimThimCreation@aol.com. Thanks, Judy in PA
Perduk102 - I had the same issue when I started just a month ago. I read the blogs on this web site and found them most helpf!!!! The lady that explained, this is not like your home machine, you don't "tweek" the upper tension, you TURN IT. I have my upper tension so that it's hard to pull the thread, but not so tight that it breaks the thread. So far I have not had to mess with the lower tension. Hope this helps!
Have you changed your thread? I was using too heavy a thread and all it took was changing to a thinner thread and I had perfect tension. Change your bobbin, re-thread your machine and check for threads in the upper tension disc. Oil your bobbin and then call customer service or your dealer. Oops! almost forgot, change your needle and turn it a bit to the right, just a hair and maybe that will help. This is a synopsis of all the thing I've heard on the Forum. Good Luck. Hope something works because when it's right ,the machine is a dream. PS Rewind your bobbin and keep your fingers crossed.
Hi, Perduk102! What kind of tension problems are you having? About a month ago, I had problems where the top thread showed on the bottom, looking like railroad tracks. This usually means the bottom is too tight or the top is too loose. If I loosened the bobbin tension, even a tiny bit, it was obviously too loose, with loops showing. If I tightened the top thread enough to make the bottom look good, the top thread constantly broke. I changed to a heavier thread and the problem was solved. Later, I went to a club meeting my dealer sponsored, and found out I could use the first thread if I didn't wind it through all three holes on the little metal bracket. I went home and tried the same thread, winding it through only one hole, and it worked. Hope this helps!
Hi Judy - I feel your pain. I bought my HQ 16 a couple months ago and it took me a while to get it set up and operational. I have practiced on it 4 days and loaded my first quilt to quilt this weekend. My tension is way off on the back - it looks like railroad tracks. I switched bobbin and top thread to idential spools. I adjusted the top tention - It feels kind of loose by now I am not sure how it SHOULD feel. I changed the needle. I am practicing on getting it figured out on the edges of the quilt I loaded, as of course I neglected to test it before I loaded! Then - today I attempted again. Plugged it in, turned it on, the lights came on the machine, but the machine would not work at all! None of the menu items would be selected - couldn't needle up or down, start machine, select any menu items, etc.

Could I be using the wrong size thread? I switched from a large cone of Maxi-Lock as I find it too linty, and put the smaller spool of Aurefil (sp).

Help - desperate to quilt in MA. Thanks.
