I am having an issue with my HQ when the pattern I am stitching out has jumps in it. Sometimes the needle is is the down postion and I have to make and emergency stop. It is very frustating, because I have to reposition the pattern, etc to continue with my quilt. This happens at least once on every quilt I do that has jumps.

Any suggestions?

SFranklin, Did you get an answer to your needle down problem? I have a similar problem. I took my machine in and they adjusted the optical sensor but it still does it (although not as bad or often) but usually a time or two a quilt. I was thinking maybe a burr on my bobbin cases casing (not sure of the tech. term). Mostly does it during tie off at the beginning or end of a pass. Connie

It sounds like the optical sensor needs a little more fine tuning. Bring it back to your rep and have them do a little more adjusting to it.

Kathi, I love my Rep but he is a 6 hour drive away, are there any other solutions? Can I adjust it myself? Connie

No, I didn't. I believe I have other issues with my pro stitcher, but the rep I bought it from is no longer a rep, so what do I do? Here is one issue I had last night.

The thread broke just after a jump. I backed up to a point before the jump. When I resumed, the machine took off at a very high speed and was sewing what was supposed to be the jump. The jump was about 24 inches. I hit pause, which the machine doesn't recognize for a few seconds and since it would not stop, I pulled the machine up off the track. When I finally got the machine ready to sew again, it is stitching erratically. Long stitches and short stitches. I am also getting an "SMS buffer overflow" error message.

That is where my needle doesn't come up also. After a tie off.
In answer to this issue: "The thread broke just after a jump. I backed up to a point before the jump. There are probably three different things going on here. First of all, if you get the "SMS buffer overflow" error message, you probably do not have the most current update. The first thing you are going to need to do is download the most current update on this website by doing the following steps:

1. On the homepage, go into "Products" and click onto "Pro-Stitcher - Computerized Quilting"
2. Go into "Software Updates"
3. Go into HQ Pro-Stitcher
4. Accept the Agreement
5. This will bring you to the updates. The most current update is the top one dated April 7, 2009. There are instructions on how to do it.

I will explain what happened when you were resuming before the jump, but this will be resolved with the update, along with the "SMS buffer overflow" message. When you went to resume, you should have unchecked the "On Resume" box and left the "After Jump" box checked. You will not have the problem of it stitching through a jump with the new update.

As far as the long and short stitches, I am guessing that when you pulled the machine off the tracks, you probably unplugged one of the buffer cables that work the stitch regulator. There is a gray cable under your machine that plugs into the carriage and two places on your machine. Make sure all three places are completely plugged in.

I hope this takes care of the problems you were having.

Thanks Kathi, I will download the update and remember how to handle this situation if it happens again.
