When I push the button for the neddle to go down it continues to run very slowly. I have to turn off the machine and turn it back on to reset it. Very annoying when you are trying to pull the bobbin thread up.

Are you letting go of the button? I haven't had this problem but the customer service at Handi Quilter may be able to help you. Give them a call and let us know the solution.
This is actually a great feature I recently discovered. If you just quickly press the needle up/down button, the needle will either travel 1/2 stitch or 1 full stitch--depending on your settings. If you have 'walking' turned on in the settings, then when you push and hold the button the machine will take several SLOW 'walking' stitches, thus securing your stitches. You can turn 'walking' off/on in the settings. I do a quick needle up/down to pull up my bobbin thread, then hold the button to take several slow stitches to secure my stitches. Hope this is helpful.
Wow SnoopyHarley - I didn't know that, Thank you for the info, I'll have to try that this afternoon. Just got my HQ set up last Wednesday, had a few problems, but getting the kinks worked out :o)
