I am using the original HQ frame, the handi handles, and a Brother PQ1500s. The sewing machine was working fine before the addition of the HQ stuff in the mix. I have spent all the time getting the quilt loaded to the frame, and was anxious to start quilting. The tension is a mess, getting mess on bottom. I have reloaded bobbin several times, rethreaded machine, checked tension, nothing is working. I am using same thread that used in the past no issues. In addition, the machine is making a terrible clanking sound. Could the handles be causing an issue? I am tired of messing with it tonight but will try hooking up the foot pedal and see if it is any better.

Also, I followed the instructions from HQ for set up, but what is the trick to rolling the quilt under take up. I have to go to the front, move both of the little Y brackets to loosen the top and backing on those rollers, then go back around to tighten up the uptake. The quilt is not even good tension, so I am getting loose fabric on the front. I am not enjoying this. Surely this is not normal. In the time it takes to walk around and loosen all of these spools and such, I could have just done this the old fashioned way of pinning on the table and fremo quilting without a frame.

Help???
We just our HandiQuilter a few weeks ago and although I know you are using a different machine the guy that trained us said if you are having problems always check and adjust the tension on top before makine any changes on the bottom.

We used a Janome 1600P before and the hardest thing to remember was to put the presser foot down--I know it's simple but is that the problem. It makes a terrible mess on the bottom when it isn't down.
