As mentioned in previous posting, I plan to order an HQ16 with studio frame very soon, but even after all my research I still have questions. I am compiling a list of questions and things that I want to try out this weekend when I visit my dealer/rep again.

Can anyone tell me how much stitching space I can expect to lose as the quilt is advanced after each row of stitching? I guess I want to know if I will be able to quilt 12 inch blocks without turning the quilt under the 16" of throat space. I am pretty pumped about the HQ 16 over other machines but I want to be sure before I invest the money.

Thanks for the wealth of information on this site.

I love my HQ. One of the reasons I picked HQ over the others was the size as my space is limited. However, the throat space is limiting. You can barely do a 12" block with a block design in the center. Toward the end of a larger quilt when the bulk builds up on the take up roller you will not be able to do that very well. I consider 11" the max when buying pantographs and even that gets tight with a really large quilt (over 90"). You will learn to get creative with your designs and learn how to break them up, like doing half of each design in each block, rolling forward, and then doing the other half in each block. That is how I do blocks on point. So far I haven't found anything I couldn't do on the HQ that the big boys can do - it just takes a little more planning and/or marking.
