not picking up stitches

| I have had the HQ16 very briefly, had lots of trouble. Now the needle will not pick up the bobbin thread. I have changed thread, changed needle, and adjusted the tension numerous times. I have cleaned and oiled, any suggestions? I live in northern Iowa, any fellow Handi Quilters out there? I would like hands on help if possible. |

Are you using the correct needles? If you are using the needles that came with your machine then that's not the problem.
Recheck your threading first. Also, when you insert the bobbin are you leaving the tail thread hanging off the side of the bobbin? Do not put the tail thread up over the top of the gap, the needle won't pick up the thread that way. Also, be sure you are leaving a long enough thread tail. I usually pull out 7 or 8 inches. Beyond that, the only thing I can come up with is somehow you've gotten the machine out of time and you need to make a trip to the dealer. |

| I am using the needles that came with the machine, I have rethreaded it a dozen times, the bobbin thread is off to the side, so I emailed the company about the problem. I bought this machine in October, it had 3 major issues right off the bat, it has been shipped back once already, now it is broke again. What would you do? |

I could contact someone in management with HandiQuilter. Explain to them the problems you have had with this machine since purchase. Remind them that the machine has been shipped back once. Since the machine is still not in good working order you would like for HandiQuilter to replace the machine. Since it has been back for service 3 times, and now 4, it would appear that this machine would fall under the jurisdiction of the Lemon Law. Just tell them that you really don't want to get an attorney involved with this matter, you feel you may not have a choice if you cannot get this situation resolved.
Hard as it will be, don't have anger in your voice but do be firm. But be sure you do speak to someone in a management position. Get their name, and their position with the company and write down what is said. Hope this helps. |

| I did talk to someone today from Handi Quilter and they called my rep who is 2.5 hrs from me, he is coming up this weekend depending on the weather. We got a snow storm last night. How do I contact management? |

Since they are sending a rep to look at the machine, wait and see what he/she has to say about the machine. This person should have the authority to replace the machine.
Once again, tell the rep ALL of the problems you've had with this machine and when you had them. Remind them that this machine has been returned to the factory once for repair. You might also want to remind him of the Lemon Law (even tho he will say that only pertains to cars--Ain't so) Good luck and keep me posted on your outcome after the Rep has been there. Be sure to get the Rep's name, the date they are there, write down everything they do to the machine and what is said. If they claim to "repair" the machine be sure to ask what you should do IF the machine messes up again. Ask if you can contact them directly if you have further problems with the machine. |

| I am finally back! Have been too busy quilting! The rep didn't have to come to my rescue, I had the needle in backwards which I could have sworn I didn't. The machine works great? Got 5 done for xmas and my girlfriend did 7 for xmas. Thanks for the help! |

OMG! I'm sorry that I didn't even think about having the needle in backwards. It is confusing because the long slit goes in back on a DSM but in front on the longarm.
I am SO GLAD you have your machine up and running! WOO HOO! Keep us posted on your progress. This inquiring mind loves to know! |

I am glad you were able to solve your problem. For the future, another thing for you to watch is that if the needle is not all the way up that can create an issue. The other thing is sometimes when your thread breaks once in while the thread up take arm is skipped and that will prevent your thread from being picked up.
