A bottle of oil came with my machine. I was told the only thing I needed to oil, was to rub a little bit of oil in the bobbin case with each bobbin change. Is this true and why does the bottle of oil have the long metal thing in it? It doesn't seem to have a hole in the end. I am a bit confused....thanks!
Pull the spout, put a hole in the end of the spout and wet your bobbin hook with the oil with each bobbin change (after cleaning out the fuzz). Keep your spout out (don't keep putting it in and out of the bottle) because the oil will get contaminated with germs on your fingers.
Thank-you for the response. What is the purpose of the long metal adapter?
Question:

What is the purpose of the long metal adapter?

Answer:

The long metal spout is to make it easier to get to the the place you need to oil. It should have a little metal lid the you would need to unscrew to get the oil out of the bottle. You do not oil the bobbin case, just the front ledge of the hook that the bobbin case goes into. That is the only place you would need to oil. It should be done with every other bobbin change.

Thanks, it really is an odd thing and seems to get oil all over the outside of the bottle. I think I over oiled this last time because when I ran some stitches, on a practice piece of fabric, the stitches were a bit discolored and oily. Fortunately, I keep a sandwich of muslin on the machine for just such a purpose. :)
But, thanks for helping me to understand the oiling!
