ProStitcher noise

When I started up my machine and PS this evening, there was funny (my DH husband describes it as if it has gravel in it) sound coming from the motor area of the PS. Also, I did not hear the fan running constantly as I usually do. It stitches fine, but sounds awful. Any idea what the problem is?
