My husband had agreed to help me purchase the HQ 16 with Pro-Stitcher. His only concern at this point is how solid the computer/program is. I'm going to look at the product and check for warranty info, but his concern is that if something goes wrong, computers are very expensive to repair.

Thanks for your feedback,
Cynthia
Cynthia, your Pro Stitcher will come pre-loaded with the software to automate your HQ. This is a solid application, monitored and updated periodically by Handi Quilter. It does not come with a back up/restore CD. Also, please note that this software DOES NOT have patterns. Handi Quilter will include with your purchase a copy of an application called Quilt Cad. It will also be preloaded onto your Pro Stitcher and will contain numerous patterns for your use. Examples of these patterns are posted on this website. You will recieve the Quilt Cad CD, and when loaded onto your home computer, it will allow you to design your own patterns that you can add to you Pro Stitcher library. I would strongly suggest that you spend some time with a dealer, play with this machine and understand the software before purchasing. Hope this helps.
charly32,
Thanks for your information about the ProStitcher. My husband is helping me to purchase the HQ16 with the studio frame and possibly the prostitcher, and I had not thought to ask my dealer about pattern software. I assumed that with the price, it would include some patterns alreaddy loaded. Your explanation has helped me a great deal----maybe I'll get a new laptop when my husband realizes this information :)
Cynthia, The Pro Stitcher comes with a 1 mb ZIP(USB) drive that has Quilt Cad preloaded with several patterns.
Quilt Cad does not make new patterns for you, nor does Handi Quilter, nor has the maker of Quilt Cad (yet anyway) New patterns are up to you, and believe me, it takes time and practice. Fortunately, there is hope.

These people offer patterns that with work with the Pro Stitcher. $2.50 or more for each pattern.
After reading and researching about the ProStitcher and Quilt CAD, I was not sure if I really want to invest in the system---sounded like a lot of work when the computer is supposed to make it easier, but then I visted the quilt recipe website and there is a plethora of patterns for the ProStiticher and the prices are so reasonable. Their service has really encouraged me to go ahead with the purchase. Thanks for the info. I do have another question---are there any other software programs that will work with PS other than Quilt CAD?
Yep... but they are pricey. The patterns website has one that they use. $500+.

For now, I'm with you. I buy the patterns online as I need them and hope that quilt cad will provide more in their promised updates. Please remember that most patterns that you buy WILL NOT work with Quilt Cad but will work with the Pro Stitcher. Quilt Cad only accepts .tap file extentions. Pro Stitcher accepts .tap, .qli. and .txt

Also, remember to back up your files!!!
Here's another source for quilt patterns in the .qli format...
