When I start to get away from the edges of my quilt, the quilt begins to bounce around as i'm stitching. I use the regulator and it doesn't seem to matter if i'm going fast or slow. I end up moving the machine with one hand and lightly rest my other hand on the quilt so it doesn't bounce and I can see where i'm stitching. Our table isn't that long and it's a very stable table (i.e. It's not the table bouncing). So i'm wondering if this is an issue with how I have the quilt itself loaded...too tight? ...too loose? Any suggestions?
I had this happen when I first got may HQ and it turned out I had my quilt loaded too tight. Try loosening it at the take up bar.
Yes having the quilt too tight will cause jumping. Also, make sure the frame is not set too high from the machine bed. The back of the quilt should be barely resting on the machine bed.

If you are still getting too much jumping you might try using some kind of weight to help you. People have used bags of rice, bags of beans or similar. Place these at the back towards the take up roller.

Let us know how you get along. We are very interested in your progress.
Your quilt will tend to bounce if you have your take up roller tension too tight. When your quilt is loaded you should be able to barely place the tips of your fingers between the bed of the machine and the bottom of the quilt. Also, make sure you are attaching your clamps on the ends of your quilt each time you roll.

Morning! I'm wondering if your machine also vibrates, any at all, or if it's only the quilt? Also, have you tried sewing without the SR to see if it continues to vibrate?

I have the same vibration, but the quilt and machine both vibrate with the SR engaged. Disengage, and the machine no longer vibrates. (I haven't paid attention to the quilt without the SR. But found this fact interesting!) I wonder if adjusting the frame will help, as suggested below? If so, I will try it.

Yesterday, my CPod went out. I wonder if it's possible the replacement unit will resolve the SR vibration problem as well?

Also, perhaps the HQ staff can tell me the latest software versions? I purchased my HQ new in July 2008.

Thanks in advance,

Your poles set up in the wrong holes on the frame could cause bouncing. The frame needs to be set up so that the screws are in the top hole so that the idler bar is as close to the bed of your machine as possible. If you have a Pro-stitcher then it would be in the second set of holes. When you roll a quilt up you should not over tighten the poles. You should be able to put just the tips of your fingers between the bar and your quilt along the bed of the machine.
The latest version of software that is available is 8.04. The software will not change your bouncing, but the pole placement should help.

Good luck

Thank you for your response. The prior messages indicated the setup could cause the quilt to bounce. I wondered if the setup could make the machine itself have that severe vibration, not only the fabric of the quilt bounce. If I read your message correctly, I understand the change of the idler pole may impact the bounce of the quilt fabric, but will not impact the vibration of the machine itself...correct?

I suppose it may have been a silly question, after all. It's obvious there is an issue with the SR, since the machine sews so smoothly when the SR is turned off. All this time, I was hoping it was a simple setup issue or user error or something else just as easy - but now, I'm beginning to think it's a machine flaw.

This is why I was wondering about the software version and if the new CPod might just fix the vibration of the machine when the SR is on. It's a severe vibration causing uncontrollable movement - not just a slight bouncing.

Do you have any thoughts on this? Do I understand you correctly to say you don't believe it will?

Thanks,
Debbie
Did you check to make sure your table is still level? That also can make the machine vibrate. Mind did the same thing and sure enough the table was off level that tiny bit, corrected it and no more vibration.
Kathy,

My table was specifically built to address my handicap/disability. It is awesome - and perfectly level :) Note that if it were off level, then I don't believe the machine would run so smoothly without the SR as it does. It would vibrate badly regardless of the SR being on or off...but it currently only vibrates when the SR is on. I don't believe it's the table, although I do know that's usually the culprit.

However...I did check it anyway, and it's absolutely perfect, just as I thought :)

My machine doesn't move once put anywhere on the frame...it stays exactly where your hand left it. If we were off level anywhere, the machine would roll the direction of the off-level. I did verify this with a very expensive level that is used for extreme fine tuning. Not your everyday construction level :) So...no leveling problem, but I appreciate the suggestion.

Any other ideas? I have not received my new CPod yet, as it must have missed the Wednesday pick up time (we finished our call around 11:45). It will be Monday before it arrives and I can test that.

Thanks for your help. I really need to resolve this problem, as it's been going on way too long, and now that I know more and my skills are improving so much, it's becoming a real issue.
