We need to know how to put together the table to the fullest extent.
Which one did you get? Did you get the big white one? If so the directions are pretty simple. But if you need help I'm more than glad to tell you what I can.
Hi crashnquilt,

I got the big white one. We were told to "yank", put some muscle in it. We did and it expanded to full length. Love my new toy!
I have just purchased the HandiQuilter. Can anyone tell me about the middle support that is offered when you extend the table to the full 10.5 ft? The place where I purchased the unit told me that the middle support unit was not necessary. Actually, two different vendors told me the same story.
What "middle support" are you talking about? To have your table to the full length of 10.5 feet, there is a piece in the center that is about 2 ft long. If that is what you are talking about, then you will need to get that from HQ16.

Are you talking about the bar on the bottom? If so, that is not a support bar, that is the batting bar. On the actual big white steel QuiltTable from Handi Quilter you don't need any kind of center support. The table is made from steel. If you're talking about the white "banquet style" table that's different. A few people on this board do have that table and claim it is sagging.

The big white QuiltTable is the table that's around $1,000

The other table is around $500. I've got the big $1,000 one, absolutly LOVE IT, and sure can't see how someone could make that table sag at all!

Frog; glad to hear you got your table together. I just love mine and play with it every chance I get!
Hello, I've just purchased my HQ16 also; I'm in the process of setting it up. I'm wanting to first quilt a queen sized quilt, then when that's done, quilt a smaller one. Is it an easy process to make the table / bars smaller with the machine still on the table, i.e. not taking the whole thing apart to change the table size? My room isn't quite big enough to keep it at 96" all the time.

Also, is that comment above from 'donnaparish' in Edmonton???

Thanks, Katie
KATIE, I just got my setup fixed today, and if you got the QUILTABLE, I don't think it is an easy process to change the size... I've got mine set up to King size, and it will just stay that way, b/c we have a KING bed, as do many others in my family, so I know I'll be doing some that size...
Hi, thanks for responding, monkeymomquilts. I don't know which table I've got; it's a long white one with banquet table legs that can be raised or lowered. I'm doing my first quilt on my new baby and I feel like such an amature all over again! Horizontal and vertical is great, but diagonal lines are so difficult. Do you use a ruler to assist you with straight, stitch in the ditch stitching? I tried that, but it appears that I do not have three hands, thus it was worse than not using the ruler. Practice, Practice and more practice, I suppose, tho I LOVE my machine. Are you a new HQ quilter too?

Katie
Katie, yes, I am a new HQ quilter...

It sounds to me like you have the portable professional table. I have the Quiltable, and it is all steel.

I just got mine set up today, so haven't done anything really yet...
I have the expandable table with the leg support. Actually bought the table without the leg support for center because my husband said he'd come up with one. 6 months later he didn't so I bought it. I think it is a must when you are extending your table to the fullest... It's just too far to not have support in the middle. Worth the money and I'm the mechanic in the family and I put the table together and the leg myself. My DH would/could not do this in the time frame I want and besides he usually says 'can't you buy something for that?" When clients call our home ans ask if he is handy I say "No, but he's here if you want to talk to him". So buy the support you will be happy you did.

Katie, if you look under products on the HQ website, you will see THE RULER BASE. This is a must have for doing any type of ruler work. I also got the Handi Versa Tool. THAT IS A GOD SEND.
Hi Crashnquilt, I did get the ruler base and the versa tool; I need practice, feel like a clutz. but, as I practice, I'm getting somewhat better. Today I discovered that I don't have to run at 100% when using the stitch regulator. So, that helps enormously for me. Wish I'd read the manual before quilting the first one at max... I guess I'm a little too eager to sit and read, I'd rather play.
