Quilting a Denim Quilt

I am making a picnic quilt for a wedding gift, I am using squares from old jeans and a heavier cotton backing. I plan on using the warm and natural batting inside. Has anyone quilted a denim quilt on their HQ16? If so do you need to use a special thread or needle? I am still new at this and am wondering if it may be easier just to tie the quilt rather than mess with trying to machine quilt it. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Wendy

Have you called Handi Quilter? I'll bet someone there can give you some idea. If not, sew it like you would with a regular sewing machine, bigger needle and heavier thread. Try a test sandwich like your quilt because using heavier thread will require a tension adjustment(ugh!) I'm thinking about getting another bobbin case to keep adjusted for different threads.
