Quilting a double wedding ring

I need to quilt a double wedding ring. I have until next April, but I hope I don't tie up my machine until then! I am thinking I want to quilt about 1/4 inch from the sides of the arcs in the rings. I know I don't want to free hand the stitching lines but I'm not sure what kind of ruler/template to use. I have the versatool which I have used with the ruler bas, but I used it for straight lines. I wonder if getting the circle templates would help me out. Maybe there's an arc-shaped template out there somewhere. Any ideas, folks? This forum has been really useful for so many things. | There is a set of circle arcs in the product section of Handi Quilter. Do you know the size of your circle in the double wedding ring quilt? Check that and call about the circle templates. Check with your dealer and maybe you can bring the top into the store and check out the templates. Let us know what you do because I have hand pieced double wedding ring family treasure I'm trying to get up the nerve to put on my machine. It's been in a pillow case for years and I have no interest in hand quilting. |

| I just finished a double wedding ring quilt. I do have the arcs. First, in the arc set, there really isn't one of the templates that fits the arc of the ring. If you move the arc as you are stitching you can get a good 1/4 inch stitch line. Remember, from the needle to the outside edge is 1/4 inch so tracing the stitch line is not all that difficult. |

Jean Lazane, You'll also need the ruler base if you decide to use the arcs. It gives you a larger flat area for ruler work.Let us know. |

Grandmapeg, I got the set of circle templates from HQ but haven't put them on the quilt to see how they'll work. That idea came from watching one of the videos. I'm a teacher and am planning to quilt this over Christmas vacation. I need it finished by April. I may investigate the offtheedgequilting.com site and see what they have. I have a set of templates to make the arcs in the first place but don't know how they'll work. I plan to stitch without thread on an extra block before trying the real thing. Thanks for asking. Jean |
