I am a newbie to the long arm and I wanted to know why the red light blinks and a noise emits when I am quilting on the regulated mode. I am not able to find the answer anywhere on the site and I do not have the manual.
thank you |

When you are in stitch regulated, it is possible to out sew the regulator. The red light and the alarm is to warn you that you are going faster than the regulator. You take the chance of having inconsistent stitch lengths, which defeats the purpose of using the stitch regulator. It is very hard to keep the light and alarm from not ever going off, so don't get worried every time it does. If it is going off more than it is not or if it is a constant alarm and red light, you know you need to slow down. I have seen it happen that someone was going so crazy fast that they damaged the hook, but normally, going a little faster than the regulator will not damage the machine--it will just not give you the nice even stitches that you would want. If you are doing something that you are having a hard time slowing down enough to keep the alarm off, you may want to consider going into manual mode and setting it to the percentage of speed that you feel comfortable sewing at.
Also, it is possible to turn off the alarm and light. I will tell you how to do it, but I would not suggest that you turn it off until you are very comfortable with your machine and have had a lot of sewing time with the machine in regulated. You will learn to get a feel for when it is in and out of regulated mode and may not need the alarm and light on to warn you. You need to scroll down the menu on the screen until you find "set up". Push select and you will get into another menu set. I think it is the first one that reads "Alarm Mode". If you push select on that, it will read "overspeed" with either a "Y" or a "N" next to it. You can toggle it back and forth from "Y" to "N" by pushing select. The "Y" means the alarm is on and the "N" means the alarm is off. After you have selected the one that you want ("Y" or "N"), to get back to the main menu, scroll down to "Exit Menu" and push select. You are now back to the "Set Up" menu. You will then scroll down this menu until you get to "Exit Menu" again and push select. At this point you should be back to the main menu with "Quilt Mode" showing on the screen. This has been a long way of answering a short question, but I hope it helps you understand the machine better. Kathi Salter Handi Quilter Studio Educator |
