I will be going to portland oregon soon and was wondering if anyone knows of a store in the area that sells mid arm acessories (groovy boards or a cheaper version). I am very new at this and having a hard time doing designs free hand. (I am not artistic) so was wondering how the boards would do.

I don't know about any stores in Oregon, but R & S Designs has less expensive boards available. They are on the web. I have some boards (both R & S and Groovy boards) and I love them. I'm a beginner, too and they give me perfect results.

Here is the website. They have many nice designs to choose from, and they have some of Patricia Ritter's pantograpgh designs that she's turning into boards. Those are more expensive, though. One thing I notice about R&S is that they have a little more backtracking on their boards than Groovy Boards or E-Z Quilt. So, if I'm using one of my R&S boards, I use finer thread. I have the maple leaves Groovy Board, which does not backtrack at all and I have used King Tut with it and it looks lovely. www.rns-design.com/ |

Do you use the Handi Quilter Stylus or the R & S stylus. Hugh difference in price. I am also a beginner and would like to try the boards. I have had some success with pantos but would like more control

I have the R&S stylus. The "fit and finish" isn't there, just a piece of wood and a metal dowel, but it works just fine.

I also have bought from R & S and think their service is amazing. I'm up in Canada and appreciated the speedy delivery service. I've purchased a couple of different design boards as well as their stylus and think they're great. I must admit though - I'm still having a bit of trouble lining the design up after I've advanced the quilt - anyone have any hints??? Thanks

I just ordered my boards and stylus from bayside and cannot wait till I get them and try it out. the saleswoman I spoke to suggested the square boards to try out first. so I ordered 2 different ones she said I would have to place them where I wanted it and go.. well, we'll see....
