Skipped stitches with feather board

We've been having trouble with skipped stitches on the feather groovy board. It skips stitches at a certain point in the design (see picture - the red line). We've changed the needle position, fixed bottom and top tensions, re-threaded, everything you'd think could be the problem but to no avail. It only wants to move from right to left (if it is "working"). We couldn't get it to stitch left-right the other day so we just stuck with R-L. Yesterday it acceptable which even then it had bigger stitches on the same point in the design. Then in the afternoon it started skipping stitches on every feather. The person prior to this ladies was using the squiggles board and I was using the clouds the day before and none of us had problems. The technician said it was not the groovy board design. What could it be if we've tried everything? (have we tried everything?) We are all using the regulated mode. Thanks!

I heard that the machine likes to run from right to left but I am not sure. I have not had the pleasure of using the groovy boards. Hey I have a question. HOw do you get the needle position to change. I was not aware of the feature? You might want to try manual mode instead of regulated and see if it makes a difference.

I asked my dealer about the right to left sewing direction when he checked out the set up of my machine today. He said it shouldn't be a problem to go either way because the bobbin set up moves in a circular motion rather than oscillating. I've found, in my limited time with the machine, that if I'm not moving too fast it doesn't make a whole lot of difference which way the machine is moving. The stitch quality is good and the thread isn't breaking and fraying.

I am using the feather groovy board on a quilt right now and I am not getting any skipped stitches. Try going really slow and watching to see where it skips the stitch. Is it on all the left-to-rights or just where the two boards join? Check to make sure your needle is straight front to back so the bobbin can catch it. I use groovy boards exclusively and have never had problem.

When using any of the groovy boards you need to follow the groove by hugging the side of the direction you are sewing. For instance, if you are making the top of the feather --hug the outside, if the bottom of the feather --hug the inside. You have to do this on all the boards. I have the hearts, stars, feather, colonial wreath, and continuous circle. If I do not hug the correct side it is a mess. Make sure your stylus isn't down too far, just far enough to catch the groove. I use the stitch regulator with 11 stitches per inch. Happy Quilting Carolyn |

Hi. I forgot to return to explain the resolution to the problem. The technicians found a piece of a broken needle inside the bobbin case. Crazy. They cleaned out the machine and now it runs great. Will check for that the next time instead of sitting there with my students becoming frustrated with the fact that I can't help them! Thanks for the replies.
