I got my HQ16 with Stitch Reg 2 weeks ago. I have been "practicing" a lot. The manual says that you can defeat (i.e., override) the stitch regulator by moving too fast. It seems I am doing this a lot, but I don't feel like I am going that fast. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your help.
Joan,
I also have a problem with the stitch regulator. I've had my machine for a year and have HATED the stitch regulator since day one. I found that it didn't start out neatly and did not regulate the stitches even though I feel that I stitch at an even speed. I've encountered another problem with the machine so it is in the shop being repaired. The stitch regulator is another issue that they say they are taking care of. Call Glen from HandiQuilter and tell him about your problem. He told me that mine needed adjustment. Good Luck with your machine. I've really been enjoying mine.

Thanks, Donna! I will call Glen. Good luck and happy quilting!
JoanHogan,

I'm waiting for my machine to come back home (I'm so lonely without it) and I will let you know how my stitch regulator is working.

I too hate the stitch regulator. I can't seem to get it.
I've enjoyed the stitch regulator and haven't had any problems unless I get to going around a curve too fast and then the stitches feather and sometimes the thread breaks. You might try setting it for manual at about 45% and see what the speed sounds like. That's what my dealer told me is a good speed for the manual mode. Then you will know about how fast the machine should be working when it is set in regulator mode. I'd load some practice muslin or something to practice listening on.
I to have the SR and am not all that pleased with it, I find that I have to move very slowly and the stitches are still not regulated.
My stitch regulator is working beautifully now. I wasn't happy with it in the beginning and didn't use it. Now after my repair man adjusted it, it works very well. Maybe something got out of wack when your machine was shipped. Keep complaining to your dealer and maybe someone will listen and help you out.
Donna - do you know what adjustment the repair man made to your stitch regulator? I have had my machine for a little over a year and now I find the stitches are different lengths even though they are set. I have reverted to manual mode; I believe the machine might need an adjustment. What will Glen at HQ do for me if I notify him of the issues? Thanks. Abby
I am going to resurrect this thread as I am also having problems with my stitch regulator. I always quilt using groovy boards and find that on the bottom portion of the board I am getting really long stitches. I have to move really fast to even get the stitch regulator to work at all and I am always on the verge of (or actually setting off) the radar detector. I have been just using the manual mode but that is sometimes difficult with the groovy boards and they have some really sharp corners that you have to slow down for.
Any body offer a magic fix?
To all,

I am looking at the possibilty of purchasing the HQ16. I see there is alot of problems with the stitch regulator. This does not sound good..........Any comments?

Thank you,
Judy
I have had my machine for almost a year now and use the stitch regulator probably 75% of the time as I am trying to learn to do feathers and other custom quilting. I have had no problem with mine at all. In fact I am totally in awe of this machine - it doesn't matter what thread I use it just goes and goes without any problem. I do adjust the bobbin tension a bit each time I start a new project and that seems to keep it happy. So in my opinion it is a great machine and I love love love it.
check your connections for the stitch regulator; the only time I had trouble with mine I had to adjust one of the wheels, the front one. My rep walked me through it. I use the SR 99.5% of the time.
I've had my machine almost a year and have no problems with the stitch regulator. I use it ALL the time. I have to watch my speed on curves or the beeper goes off. Other than that, I LOVE MY MACHINE! (Except when the tension makes you crazy but now that I have Towa tensioner I don't feel the need to scream.)
I just finished my first pantograph using the stitch regulator, and it was awesome! I thought it performed beautifully, it would have taken a lot of practice for me to achieve the same results with out it.
My stitch regulator wheel was not 'riding' on the right place on the bed, so I 'fixed' it. I had to add a washer to move it out so that it 'rode' in the right place and did NOT ride up over the bed. Once I did that, all my problems were gone. Pluse I cleaned the rubber on the wheel.
