After much trial and error----I was able to get great tension with the threads I use the most. Essential on top and Bottomline in the bobbin. BUT- the problem is the top tension is so tight that when I move the machine to start a new area---like traveling--the top thread breaks. It never breaks when quilting. If I loosen the top---I get loops on the back.

My question is---should I loosen or tighten the bobbin tension to be able to loosen the top tension a wee bit?
If your tension is balanced but, your thread still breaks, you need to loosen both the top and bottom tension. Once you loosen both tensions you should be able to get a balanced tension and not have your thread break.

Good luck,

Thanks. That makes sense. I will try it on the next quilt.
