thread nesting

OK, I feel like a helpless fool today! This morning I finished off a quilt that I left on the frame all weekend without incident.
I then put another top and back on, wound a bobbin of Bottomline and proceeded to sew (new top thread, new needle, cleaned, oiled, etc). Right off it was stitching a ways and then I'd get a 1-2" area on the backside of thread nest, and the bobbin thread would be all wrapped up in the housing. I had checked the bobbin and top tensions carefully and they were fine. After this happening a couple times, I wound a SoFine bobbin, retensioned, and tried sewing again. The exact same thing happened. About every 8-10" I get crud on the back. In my efforts, I think I have moved the needle eye ever-so-slightly towards 5pm position because of top thread fraying. I'm starting to lose my mind. And yes, I have rethreaded the top. I know you gals are busy this week, but if there are any suggestions I'd be ever so greatful. Margaret Gunn |

Margaret,
It sounds like your thread is not "flossed" into the tension disks. Make sure that you are flossing your thread and that it is not just sitting on the outside of the disks. Sometimes the tension disks can be tightened enough that you can't get the thread between the disks. Loosen the disks and try flossing the thread again. This should solve your problem of thread nesting. Good luck, Cheryl Duncan Handi Quilter Studio Educator |

I'll check that later. The tension test-stitching seemed to be fine. What I have noticed is that the stitches I have had to take out seem very snug. This wouldn't be the case if it weren't holding tension within the disks would it?
What would cause it to come out of the discs? |

Margaret,
Check and make sure that your bobbin is in the correctly, that it rotates clockwise as you look at it. If that isn't the problem we would like you to call our customer service at 1-877-697-8458 M-F 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. They will be able to help you. Thanks, Cheryl Duncan Handi Quilter Studio Educator |
