I have had my HandiQuilter for a few years....yes, years, but have had problems with the machine since the beginning. It works- sometime-and sews smoothly and turns out beautiful work (have completed 5 quilts on it), but most of the time, the machine sounds like a washing machine on the spin cycle, and it frays and breaks the top thread, and if I keep re-threading it, it will whirl, clunk, and sputter its way across the fabric. If I look under the machine, the bottom looks like a rats nest. The top thread is jumbled up, birdnests, large---no huge stitches and the bottom thread is just loose and lying amongst the rubble! I'm very, very frustrated. I've taken it to Sacramento (50 miles away) to have it serviced...twice - - get it home and the same thing happens. I've had the repair man from Sacramento come up (extra charge) and he said he had to take it to his shop, calling later in the day, telling me nothing was wrong and I could pick it up. (Another 100 mile trip). Now, there's a dealer in our town, and I took it there, spent another $80 to have him "fix" it, (he indicated the previous repair man didn't know his stuff) brought it home, threaded it (leaving the bobbin in that he put in himself), fired it up, and guess what!!! same problem. I'm really unhappy, plus have a quilt I have sold that needs to be delivered next Saturday. Can you please give me some guidance??? |

| I would call the Handiquilter people directly, you might need to send the machine back to the factory to be serviced. |

We too have had our HQ for several years and like you, have had problems with it from the beginning. The tension is constantly a mess. The motor stalls right in the middle of a quilt for no apparent reason. I have quilted dozens of quilts and it's hit or miss on how they will turn out. I have had the machine services at least a half dozen times. I just picked it up Thursday (80 MRT), finished a quilt and when i changed thread and bobbin for the next one, the tension is a mess again. I have had to call HQ directly in the past. They did replace some parts free of charge although I had to pay the dealer for the labor. I am sick and tired of fighting with this machine. For the cost, I expect to be able to change bobbins and thread without having to go thru this hassle. I am ready to take a ball bat to it, but I will settle for calling HQ again. I am going to go and try it again, I guess I am just itching to get frustrated. |
