This seems like something of a stupid question, but, I have quite a few spools of King Tut thread, not on a cone. Can I use this on the HQ16 where the cone normally sits? I know HQ makes another spool holder, but it seemed to me that it was for specialty threads. Or do I need that spool holder for ANY spool?

Any thoughts would be welcome -

You should be able to put the thread on the normal thread spools. Just be sure that when the thread is coming off the spool there is nothing on the spool that catches the thread causing it to hang up a bit.
I do it all the time! And I don't change a thing in threading the machine!
Thank you cindi and crash.... now that I know it's been done, I feel better about trying it. Yah, now I can use my variegated threads!

I am using the Horizontal Spool Pin for a Sulky thread that is wound like the regular Coats and Clarks home sewing thead. I bought some of the smaller 500 yard spools of Sulky because that is what my local store sells. It kept breaking and breaking and I was fustrated with it until I recalled that on my Bernina 440QE if I use a thread wound like Coats and Clarks, I need to use the Vertical spool pin. So, I took the thread off of my vertical spool pin on the HQ and put it on the horizontal one. No more breaking. My King Tut thread is not wound like Coats and Clark thread, so I am hoping there won't be any problems with it when I do get around to using it.
