I have been buying and testing different threads and haven't found the right one yet. I read on a blog somewhere that the quilter in question felt the best combo was 28wt aurafil on the top and 40 wt aurafil in the bobbin. Has anyone tried that on the HQ16? Signature 40 wt seemed to break a great deal. Anyway, what I'm asking is what thread worked well for you with what type of batting? Thanks, Lisa in Texas |

I have used Star Cotton Thread, Superior So Fine, Maxi-Lock, YLI Monofiliment in my machine and have not had a problem with any of them. I do have to adjust upper and lower tensions when I change threads but that's the only problem I have had. In fact, just recently I used water soluable thread in the needle to do shadow trapunto work and didn't have a problem. I do like for my upper and lower thread to match in color and in weight. I have also used the Sulky Blendables in both the 12 and 30 weights. I did use SEWER'S AID on the Sulky threads just to assist in going thru the pre tensioner. Today I going to try 40WT Robison-Anton rayon thread to see what effect I get with that. Will let you know how that goes. I do find that I have to fiddle with the tensions a bit to achieve a nice stitch. Hope this helps. |

Crashnquilt, Just for information I use Robison-Anton rayon thread for embroidery, great sheen but not good for items that are used around pools( clorine), or bleach made the thread color run. You might try in on that you will not use bleach on. Thread is great for sewing. |

lakarp We used some Star thread and it kept having chubs in the thread and it was always knotted to begin another thread so lots of breakage. Our best thread so far has bee Kingtut and sometimes inbetween thread in the bobbin. Sandy |
