I'd like to be able to time my machine whenever needed. Can I buy the necessary tools from HQ? Can you provide manuals or training so that I can
perform this service myself?
I, also, requested the same - 2 yrs ago. Even talked with Utah. It was a negative. Hopefully, the answer this time around will be positive, especially since other longarmers are trained and capable of timing their own machines.
One of the benefits of owning an HQ Sixteen is that they do not require constant timing adjustment. If something traumatic happened, such as a needle deflecting and jamming into the throat plate, then it is possible that timing may need to be re-adjusted. We train our HQ Reps to do this for you.

If you live far from your local Rep, it is possible for us to talk you through timing adjustment on the phone, but this is not something we feel is necessary to prepare for. If you are having problems with stitch creation on your machine, it’s important to talk to our Customer Relations Team and Tech Support first, so we can help to determine the problem.

The short answer is, Handi Quilter machines require very little customer maintenance and that’s one of the advantages of owning HQ. A drop of oil on the front ledge where the hook slides around every other bobbin change and keeping it clean from lint build-up are the biggest jobs an owner has. If for some reason you are having issues of skipping stitches or shredding with a specific thread and you have already tried changing your needle and made sure it was in straight and not in backwards, there is an adjustment with the needle you can try. If you have the thread skipping stitches, you can turn the needle slightly towards 7 o'clock and see if that will take care of that issue. If you are having problems with the thread shredding, you can turn the needle slightly towards 5 o'clock.

We recommend that you take your machine to your Rep once a year to have it looked over and lubricated. Most of our customers have never needed their timing adjusted.

If you are having a timing problem that precipitated this question, please call us immediately at 1-877-697-8458 and we’ll be happy to help you. If you’ve heard stories about long-arm machines having finicky timing issues that need to be constantly adjusted by the end-user, please let me assure you that Handi Quilter machines do not fit that profile. Our machines were designed to be extremely user-friendly. The only end-user adjustments that are needed are to pay attention to the bobbin thread tension and to the top thread tension. Simple!
