Turning quilt to do side borders

Can anyone tell me how to turn my quilt on the frame to quilt the side borders? I quilted the center of my quilt and the top and bottom borders. When I took it off and turned to do the side borders, the anchor stitches down each side caused my border to ripple. Do I not stitch the sides when I am going to quilt? My border would lie flat if I didn't have the stitching in place.

I'm so glad you asked that question. I have no answer or experience and have been watching my dvds and she doesn't say anything about turning to do the side borders. At least not that I've seen. Let's hope someone out there has some advice!

I quilt my borders as I go thru the quilt. I think that is much easier than trying to turn the quilt. I wrote to Michelle Hyland about turning the quilt and she said she does not turn the quilt and does the borders as she is moving along the quilt.

Yes, I also quilt my borders as I go. It is easier. The only thing you have to remember is what you quilted on the top should be what is on the bottom of the quilt. I know if I have a quilt on the machine and can not get back in god time, I have to write down what pattern I used on the top. My brain does not function like it used to when remembering things. Good luck.

I like to quilt my borders as I quilt the quilt. It helps to take a digital picture of the top border so you can make the bottom border the same way.

I have turned my quilt to do the side borders...it really does save some time starting and stopping and it goes really quick for the borders, especially if there is a thread change. On thing I did do to not get the rippling is to take out the anchor stitching and to not tighten the sides too much with the clamps. Hopefully that is of some help...good luck

I pin baste in a staggered pattern side borders while quilting tops. This mimics the draw in associated with normal quilting. I turn the quilt and remove the pin basting as I add in the side (now bottom/top) quilting. No wavy or puckered borders...
