I'm someone else who wishes there were a better manual with the machine, especially now with my upgrade. Maybe some of you can help. Since I've done only a few small quilts I'm not very experienced. I'm afraid I don't understand when and why I'd want to use the walking, half stitch, and whole stitch features. Also wondering if and how they're affected by whether my stitch regulator is on or off. Enlightenment, please!

Can you tell us what stitches you got with the upgrade? I would be interested in knowing. The upgrade came out shortly after I got my machine and I still am not sure I want to spend the extra money.

crashnquilt - It's the stitches I referred to in the subject line: there are settings for walking stitch, whole stitch, and half stitch.

I just installed my upgrade today. I called Handiquilter because the lockboard wouldn't fit. Come to find out I needed to pull a plastic cap off the pins. Anyway, I asked about the user manual. She said there was a supplement in the box with the upgrade. Couldn't find it. She said to let her know if I didn't have it and she'd send one right out. I don't think I got the original, either, so I asked for one of those, too. The walking, whole and half stitches are supposed to be explained in the upgrade manual. Hope so.

I wonder if they will post a video in the education forum? That would be good to see those stitches in action and the purpose they serve.

I too have found that the instruction manual is very lacking. In fact I believe it is the worst I have seen. Compare it for instance to one you get with a $29.00 cell phone. Surely you could put out a better manual for a machine costing $8000.00. That is my only beef. Too many unansered questions for the equipment. How about it handi quilter ? If you put one out I would even pay for the printing of one.

I had to call the service hotline, I too felt the manual explained things like you should already know......Walking stitch is to bast your quilt......Half stitch is if you would like your needle to stop up or down....this is the one that baffled me in the beginning, tho it doesn't take much. Everytime I pushed the "needle up/down" button it made a full stitch.....I just had to switch it to half stitch and the needle would stay up....Lights are excellent! I no longer need my lamp that I would put over the machine! Other than the poor manual, and the CD isn't alot of help either....the upgrade was worth the money.

I totally agree. I think the manual is just plain awful. My LQS installed my new machine yesterday and I love it BUT after they left I had a thread break and had to refer to the manual. The printing is so poor (read inexpensive for them) I could not figure out the proper threading sequence. I resorted to the Yahoo HQ16 discussion forum where someone had posted nice color up close photos. I was able to figure out my mistake.

Did some of you receive an additional manual that covers the updated software?? I also had to call the company when I could not get my needle to stay down in the quilt to start or end a stitch--has to be set on half stitch. I am also in the dark as to when you use the different features. A video would sure be nice!
