Are you working in the front or back of the machine?
Look on the underside to make sure you are not getting caught in a pleat or tuck in the backing. |

Check your tracks and make sure that you don't have any nicks in your tracks. If you do have a nick use a very fine sandpaper and gently rub it out. The other thing you need to check is the wheels. You can get thread wrapped around the wheels and that can creat problems.

| I have the same problem. Sanding the carriage tracks helped but I am concerned about what caused the damage. I called HQ and was told to talk to my local rep. My nearest rep is new and said she couldn't help me. Offered to talk to HQ and took my number but never called back. A second call to HQ told me my wheels may need adjustment but didn't provide details on how to adjust. I am buying new track for my table and thought I could use the good parts of the table track to replace the carriage track but wanted to identify the cause of the damage on the carriage track to avoid doing the same thing again. |

You do not say if you have a Pro-Stitcher or not. If you do not have a Pro-Stitcher then you should have only the back track secured. The front track floats. If you ever move your machine then you need to be careful that you don't hit the tracks with the wheels, they can nick the track. Also, as we said before if you have thread around the wheels then that can create a control issue. Be careful that you keep your table clean and clear from threads.

| I just read HQs response to this. I do not have the ProStitcher but my rep set my front tracks (if you are facing the front of the machine, the tracks closest to me) stationary and my back tracks are floating. I do have the stitch regulator if that makes any difference. Is this the way they are supposed to be? I have had some control problems when in the middle of the frame. |

| My assumption is also that the front is where the needle & bobbin are and the back is where the power switch is. |

| I am wondering why no one has responded to my question on Feb. 6th if my rep. set my tracks up correctly. I thought this forum strand was monitored and answered M-F. |

I'm glad you are enjoying you HQ16. Don't you LOVE the micro handles? To answer your questions, the front of the machine is where the front handlebars are located and the back of the machine is where the back handlebars are located.
With your mico handles, is it the sticker part of the knob that is coming off or is it the black knob that comes off? If it is the black knob, maybe the screw was not tighted enough. The screw is located under the top of the black foam on the handlebar. Just push the black knob down into the tube of the handle and tigten the little screw with a small philip's screw driver. If it is the sticker part of the knob, maybe not all of the plastic cover was taken off underneath where the sticky part is. If that is not the problem, we can send you some very sticky double sided tape you can put on it to keep it in place. If you need some tape, call Customer Service and explain what the problem is and that you were told to have them send you some double sided tape to keep that part of the handle from popping off. Our hours are M-F 8:00AM-5:00PM MST. I hope this helps you with the problem you are having. Kathi Salter Handi Quilter Studio Educator |

We usually recommend that you have the back tracks stationery however, it doesn't matter. When your rep set up your tracks they should have started at one end of the table and moved the machine, placing a command strip in between the machine and the end of the table. Then move the machine further down the table and place another command strip between the previous one and the machine. Continue down the tracks placing 6-8 strips along the length of the track. It could be that your track is not straight in one area and by moving the command strip you should be able to resolve the problem.
Let us know if this resolves your issue. Cheryl Duncan Handi Quilter Studio Educator |

| If it really doesn't matter which track is stationary, why recommend it one way over the other? I just want the best performance from my machine. |

The reason we recommend that the back tracks are stationary is that they are closer to the edge of the table. If you have the Pro-stitcher then you would have both tracks stationary. Hope this helps you.

If I have the studio frame, should I redo my tracks so that the back track is stationary and the front floats?
Thanks. I am really learning a great deal through all these posts. |

We do recommend that the back track is the track that is stationary.

I was pleased to see this discussion. I am having the same trouble and have done the cleaning etc. I am still having problems.
Would changing to the larger wheels help? Also my table is home made and isn't perfectly level - how much of an impact does that play. I would consider purchasing the quilters portable table that HQ offers if that might solve the problem. |

Your table needs to be level or your machine can and will wander. We have three tables that are avaliable, the adjustable table, the Quiltable, and the Studio Frame. Each of these tables can be leveled and should help prevent the wandering you have now. Also, make sure there are no threads wrapped around your wheels. This can cause a control problem.

Is there anything else that could cause this problem. When i am quilting and I come to certain locations on the tracks I feel like I need to work harder to control my machine. Other areas are fine and it is only user errors causing the problem. Would this be caused by an table that isn't level.

Make sure there are no nicks in your tracks. If there are use a very fine sandpaper to gently rub the nicks out. Yes, the table needs to be level, it will cause control issues.
