Hi, I am new to the forum. I am looking at a used HQ16 and am wondering if the price is good. She is asking $5,000.00 and it is three years old, w/stitch regulator and it has the portable table. The machine has never been used, she turned it on after set up and never used it. There are not any extras with it other than what came with the machine originally. Except I think the bobbin winder comes with it. Unless the lazer was extra and she's not sure if it has one. I found something in the original box that I think that is what it is. It is a black cylinder looking. I went to test it and it only had the sample fabric from the factory in it. So I could not test the stitch regulator. She offered for me to bring a quilt to load so I could test with that. I am planning on loading muslin w/batting and backing. I would not be getting any help from her as far as loading etc. She simply doesn't know anything about the machine. I am wondering if there have been any upgrades for it in the past three years and what they are. Also, wondering if the warranty is transferrable? Thank you in advance for any and all help you can give me. I am hoping to be a HQ16 owner sooner or later!
Doris
Regarding the warranty, you will need to check with HandiQuilter. I know if you call their customer service department they should be able to give you all the information you need. They are really good folks and trust me they don't bite. Good luck and keep us posted on your decision
New to the forum; bought a used HQ16 in Sept '07 and just did my first quilt 3 days ago!! I bought it from a quilt shop owner who needed to update her machine to the newer model and she offered me the used one for $5000.00. It has the stitch regulator, the full size table, the bobbin winder, lazer, extra bobbins, &needles. She even brought it to my house and set it up for me! She gave me about 10 minutes of instrustions on it and was gone. She said the best way to learn was just to get on it and 'play' so I did for approx 9 month...when my husband and I weren't traveling. We travel by motorcycle and always hunt out quilt shops; whenever I tell someone that I got the HQ for that price they are quite surprised and tell me I got a great deal. I know the updated model has slightly different handle bars and more lights but other than that there isn't any difference from what I've been told. Make sure to keep the original box - this is the only way it can be shipped back to the company if it needs any repairs...I wasn't given any warranty with mine but from all the research I'd done prior to getting this deal I found them to be the best quality on the market so I wasn't too concerned with that. I had 'test driven' a Gammill and actually liked the HQ better and for a home quilter it is much more practical. I loaded my second quilt on it today and will quilt it tomorrow...I can finally make a dent in the stack of quilt tops I've done and it's nice to be able to say "I made it - the whole thing!!" (I refused to pay someone to quilt something and call it my own.) Happy Stitching...Bev
two-wheeled quilter, where are you from? I'm in eastern NC. I too ride and quilt! We may be two of a kind. The purchase of my HQ is also very similar to yours but I didn't get the original box. Hopefully I will never need it. Riding to hunt down quilt stores would be great, but just how much fabric can you stuff in the saddle bags?
Wow, it's good to see there are more quilting motorcycle riders out there! I also ride (Harley Trike) and love to quilt. I don't have a HQ Sixteen yet but I am researching the possiblites and all the posts are very helpful in making a decision. Well, the decision is made just need to figure out when and where.

As for packing fabric in your side sadles, you can always have it mailed to your house!

Looking forward to meeting fellow riders at the quilt shop!
