Bobbin Case Snagging

Has anyone had trouble with their bobbin case snagging. It will feed find (the way it should) then snag and you'll have to pull to release the thread, while it's in your hand. Discovered this after all possibilities of correcting eyelash problem, and everything was pointing to the bobbin area. I think I need to buy a new case, but not sure. I've had my HQ for 3 years and never had this problem.

I have had a similar if not the same problem. Holding the bobbin case in your hand with the open side facing you and pulling the thread out slowly it seemed that the thread would pull out fine for one rotation of the bobbin and then stick. I have had this happen more than once and realized that I had dropped the bobbin. It was actually bent so that the left side of the opening was catching on the bobbin. I found out that I could bend it back by putting an empty bobbin in the case for leverage and using a small screw driver against that left side, leveraging off the "axle" of the empty bobbin. I tried this because I was mid-quilt and would have to wait several days for a replacement if it didn't work. Please realize that the "bend" and the "adjustment" were so small as to not be noticable. I only knew I was successful if it didn't bind anymore.

To CountryQuilter -- that's amazing, certainly wouldn't have thought of doing that, but definitely something to remember. In my case, I would get a few rotations then stop (snag). I have tried other bobbins and the same thing would happen. DH re-checked bobbin case, tighten smallest screw on top of case. Went back to Betsy and started with the tension routine again. (hours spent) The bobbin case tension is tighter than normal but I did have progress. Still planning on calling rep regarding this. Maybe I still need a new bobbin case. All I can envision is this happening again and being again very frustrated.

Well, it worked for a little bit. Did talk to a rep and there might be a burr in the thread slot. Can't see it but we are going to smooth it anyways. Also, I'm placing an order for a new one. I have a quilt on - 1/3 way in - and having this problem. Arrrrrrrrrrrrr

Keep us posted as to what the problems are because the rest of us would like to keep the info for future reference.
Is your machine still under warranty? Hope so for your sake. |

This has been a very frustrating experience. Machine is in for service. It seems there was more to this than meets the eye. This is going to be interesting. I'll update with the outcome.

A whole new Hook Assembly had to be installed. Can you believe that. The machine was not quite 2 yrs. old.

Did they happen to tell you as to WHY you needed the hook assembly? I think the answer would be very interesting.
