My bobbin case isn't rusting but it was turning very dark. My husband cleaned it up with an emery cloth.

Yes it was kinda rough to the touch. Also, I've noticed since using the emery cloth on it I get less thread breakage.

Maureen - my case is also dark, which I put of to handling (oils f/hands), but not rusty. How long have you had your HQ for your case to rust. I also live in FL. Right now I am having a problem with my case, just talked to a rep and there might be a burr in the thread slot. Can't see it but we are going to smooth it anyways. Also, I'm placing an order for a new one. I have a quilt on - 1/3 way in - and having this problem. Arrrrrrrrrrrrr
