I'm fairly new to the long arm experience. I heard that some quilters float the quilt top. Is anyone floating the quilt top on the machine versus securing both ends of the quilt top to the rollers? Is there an advantage to this?
I find that there is a lot of quilt shrinkage. It may be a puffier quilt but it will not end up the same size you started with. I secure the top before quilting and on the sides as I roll and then at the bottom as well.
Thanks for the info. I wouldn't mind a little puffier for my next quilt top so I think I will try it!
There are times the quilts aren't square, the size is small or the quilt is an odd shaped. These are the situation I float the top. I bast in the top of the quilt and work the quilt top as I go makeing sure not to tug on the top too much, the batting...just try to keep it even as you go.
