* Jan 29th 2008 I'm just starting out and I'm ready to buy LOTS of thread. I'm going back and forth between King Tut (expensive) and PermaCore (more affordable). Does any one have any suggestions as to what works best in the HQ. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Cheri. |

* Jan 30th 2008 When I started with my HQ I bought different brands of thread until I found one I liked. Any good quality thread will work. As a warning, when you start sewing a lot of cotton fuzz collects on the needle and in the bobbin area. Clean it after every bobbin change. Goof Luck. |

* Jan 30th 2008 I wouldn't buy "lots" of thread right up front. Try something reasonable like the permacore for your practicing. You will use lots so it doesn't make sense to buy the most expensive. I wouldn't go cheapest either. I did and was disappointed with how some of my early stuff looked. After a while I realized that the thread was partly responsible. Also, cotton thread fuzzes badly but the poly or wrapped poly doesn't so bad. You should still clean the bobbin area and oil with every bobbin change. |

* Jan 31st 2008 I bought lots of thread in the beginning and now look at it and wonder why I picked the colors I did. |

* Jan 31st 2008 Hi, I invested in "stitch outs" from the superior thread collections. They were only $3.00 for each thread line (king tut, so fine, highlights...). They are great to have because they have thread wrapped around a piece of cardboard so you see the actual thread. It is hard to pick thread by color on-line, from a picture or when you are at a quilt show without the quilt you are picking it out for. This also gives my customers more options without me having to have them all on hand, which is very expensive. I never heard of PermaCore, but I buy my Kig Tut at baysidequilting.com. They have been the lowest that I have seen. Please let me know if you can find them cheaper. I was getting them for just under $17 and now I think they went up a buck. |

* Mar 7th 2008 I have had some good and some bad luck with thread. My favorite is King Tut and I have had success with Coats and Clark poly for my bobbin. I'm not sure if the mix of cotton and poly (bobbin) thread is going to be trouble for me with quilts as they age and are washed, but the combination has me quilting smoothly. I tryed Superior's Monopoly and had to reduce my top tension way down but it is soft and flexible. |
