skipped stitches sweet 16

I recently bought the sit down Sweet Sixteen and loved it. I love its ease and great stitches. It was working beautifully until I changed the needle. I am getting major skipped stitches and tension challenges. It will skip 3-25 stitches then pick up the bobbin again. I have checked many times that the needle is in all the way, threading from front to back. I can't find anywhere a diagram of threading although I'm pretty sure it is right but you never know. I've tried wraping the thread 1 1/2 times in the tension disc and 1/2 around the tension disc. I've changed threads, using the same in top and bottom and different weights. I have been so excited to get some Christmas quilting done and very frustrated now. Please help!
