I just tried Superior So Fine and loved it, no problems, use Superior and also have had good luck with Coats and Clark and thread from Connecting Threads (although a little fuzzy). Using size 19 needle. Now trying Superior "The Bottom Line by Libby Lehman" and thread is shredding (using Superior pre-wound bobbins), changed needle to size 18, still shredding. Like the sheen of the thread, but is it too fine? Do I need a smaller needle? The tension and stitch seem fine, the bottom thread isn't breaking, just the top. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I just had that same problem and couldnt figure out what the problem was. I used a smaller needle and was using aurifil 50 on top. I think I should have been using 40. Or maybe the presnun bobbins(poly) should have been cotton?
I'm having the same problem. Does anyone have an answer or cure?
I haven't had my thread shred much, but when it did and the tensions and needle were correct, I rethreaded the top and then it stopped.
When thread starts shredding, the first thing I do is test the thread. I take a strand of thread and see if I can break it with my hands/fingers. If it breaks easily I get rid of it. It may be a new spool to you but you have no idea how long it's been warehoused or on the shelf.

Check your thread path. Literally run your fingers over the thread path to see if you can feel a burr that might be wearing the thread. Putting a nylon over your fingers will help also.

Have you changed the needle? You may have a burr on the needle eye.

You might bypass the center hole on the pre-tensioner to see if this will help.

Also, try turning your needle JUST A HAIR to the right. If I'm using a cotton thread I find turning the needle straightens up a lot of problems with stitching. When using poly threads keeping the needle dead center works best in my machine.

Hope this helps and keep us posted on your progress.
