This is my first post and my first problem.I guess that they go hand in hand..I have just purchased my machine, it was gently used. I have just completed my first top and did the baptist fan pattern. Almost every time that I went right to left(on the end fan) the thread would shred.I could here some binding going on in the bobbin area and than I could hear a strand on the thread snap. I was using superior bottom line and went as far as replacing the needle, although I new it was a new one. Is this a common problem? Has anyone had this issue. FYI the machine was recently serviced and all updates completed..Any input would be appreciated...Thanks Linda P.S. no snapping if I only go left to right
You might try turning you needle just a HAIR to the right. I usually have to do this when working with Superior Bottom Line and Superior So Fine threads.

Check your bobbin area and make sure you have no lint in your bobbin area or in your bobbin case. Also, be sure to oil the bobbin area and rub just a small drop of oil on the outside of your bobbin case. Check the tension on your bobbin thread. If your bobbin tension is too tight this will cause the needle thread to shred. Check your needle tension also. If needle tension is too tight that will cause your thread to just SNAP.

Hope this helps and please keep me posted on your progress. If this don't work maybe I have another trick that might work.
Thank you for the advice. I had heard about turning the needle, but I couldn't remember if it was to the rt or left..lol. At this point I am going to make a sandwich and PPP. I called and talked to Kathi yesterday and she had mentioned a few of the things that you have listed. I realy didn't think that it was tension, but maybe it is. I had oiled the bobbin before loading the quilt, I had cleaned the bobbin area, I did not take a good look in the bobbin case. I will be doing that and I have reset the upper tension to the factory spec, tight all the way in and back out six full turns. I did have it set at about seven in a half turns out. the bobbin tension is set so it "spiders down". I'm on my way out right now to pick up some batting so I can put a couple unused flat twin sheets together and ppp. I knew I was keeping them around for a reason. Thanks for your reply! I'll keep you posted on what happens. Linda
Thank you for all your help and ideas. I oiled, checked the bobbin, thread path and reset the tension. In looking at the bobbin I noticed a little "fuzz" in the thread channel,, where the thread goes before it goes under the spring tension thingy. Any way a little fuzz was a bunch of fuzz. I WAS AMAZED!! So the good news. The stitching is wonderful, going left, right up or down. THANKS TO YOU ALL FOR THE HELP YOUR THE GREATEST;-)
