Three Utah Quilters Featured in Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Vol. 8

Today’s our day to be part of the Quiltmaker 100 Blocks Vol. 8 Blog Tour! Be sure to leave a comment on this blog post by midnight on Thursday, Nov. 14 for a chance to win a copy of the special issue.

Since Handi Quilter is based in Utah, we thought we’d highlight three Utah quilters who have blocks in Volume 8. And they represent three distinct styles of quilting.

First, here’s Lori Holt’s block (block #783) named Home Sweet Home.

Lori is a popular blogger (Bee in My Bonnet), quilt designer, and fabric designer for Riley Blake Designs. Her homey and vintage style is very popular among quilters everywhere. And this block is a perfect example of Lori’s style — even using fabrics from various lines she has designed.

Our next Utah quilter is Margie Ullery. Her block (#756) is named Celebrate.

Margie is also a blogger and quilt pattern designer (Ribbon Candy Quilt Co.) and has had blocks in previous issues of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, as well as quilts in Quiltmaker magazine. We love her colorful and whimsical style. While her block uses holiday fabrics from Sandy Gervais’ Reindeer Games for Moda, we think this block would work for any season.

Our last Utah quilter is Handi Quilter’s own Nancy Allen. Her block (#763) celebrates Utah’s state symbol, the iconic beehive. The title, Deseret, means honeybee and was the name of the Utah territory before it became a state.

Volume 8 of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks featured Nancy’s quilt using this block in the magazine’s Designer’s Gallery (and it’s on display in their Golden, CO office gallery). In this version of the quilt she used fabrics from various Fig Tree & Co. fabrics. Who knew a floral, green fabric would work as a beehive?

And here’s a scrappier version of her Deseret quilt:

We hope you’ve enjoyed seeing these blocks by three Utah quilters.

Be sure to leave a comment before midnight on Nov. 14 to possibly be the lucky winner of a copy of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Volume 8. Good luck!
