How to use the trace outline function in a cropped area

How and when do you use the trace outline to stitch around the cropped areas in an edge to edge pattern when there are 2 or more cropped areas. An example would be the stars in the edge to edge tutorial.

Nancy,
Mark an area around the first appliqué to be cropped. Crop. Baseline. Clear your area. There can only be one area. Crop, Baseline and Clear.
After you have created the last area to be cropped on the row, do not clear the area.
Go to Quilt, Trace outline and select stitch and area. This will stitch around the last area created. Clear your area.
Mark an area around the first appliqué, duplicating the first area that was created and cropped on that row.
Go to Quilt, Trace Outline and select Stitch and Area. Repeat for each area that is cropped.
Good luck,
